FIS has submitted a proposed modification to the Plumbing Code to add irrigation installation standards. The proposal to add a new chapter to the code, Chapter 14 - LANDSCAPE IRRIGATION SYSTEMS, will be considered at the June 23 meeting of the Florida Building Commission’s Plumbing Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) in Gainesville. This is the first step in the approval process. At this time there are several members of the Committee in opposition to the modification. FIS Board members, staff, and other industry leaders will be in attendance to advocate for the modification. Main talking points include the disjointed and fractured system of specifying standards throughout the State.
It is confusing to contractors doing work in multiple jurisdictions and ineffective in the conservation of water through proper installation of irrigation systems. A standard code required to be followed statewide would go a long way to resolving the problems faced by Irrigation contractors.
If anyone is interested in attending and addressing the Committee, please contact the FIS office immediately at 727-209-1535 or email at info@fisstate.org.
